Does anyone know a good vegitarian cook books?

I am in 10th grade and just decided to become a vegi because of the effects raising meat has on the enviorment. How do I stay a healthy person and not eat meat?

Try googling vegetarianism. You will get a ton of hits that include recipes and advice for becoming veg. The best way to start is to start slowly. If you love burgers or chicken, cut out all other meat except those. Slowly add more fruits and vegetables. Start trying the non-meat versions, like veggieburgers instead of hamburgers. The more slowly you make the transition, the less likely you are to ditch the whole thing as soon as you get a craving for meat. Remember, even if you cut out all meat except for your very favorite, you are helping the environment.

There are a lot of eco-friendly ideas on my Yahoo!Group:

I basically decided to become a vegetarian overnight. It’s probably easiest to keep eating the veggies you normally eat but make sure to get in the protein you need, mabye with the meat alternatives. There is always beans and rice which you will probably get tired of. Instead of buying cookbooks, I’d recommend trying the recipes for meals that you already like and just add beans or soy products to make up for the meat. A lot of ethnic foods offer good vegetarian alternatives. If you find that you have problems getting in all the protein in your vegetarian diet, there are lot of protein shakes out there that you can mix with soy milk….my favorite is Jay Robb’s whey protein in chocolate. You also might want to take a veggie-based multi-vitamin when you are first getting started to make sure you aren’t depriving yourself of important nutrients. It’s important to know what you are doing before you change your diet. If done right, vegetarians are usually way healthier than carnivores. Good luck!
